Our Work Purpose

District Targeted Priorities

NWREC2 works closely with its member districts
to provide and/or facilitate support, guidance and
technical assistance in accordance with, and pursuant
to, the Joint Powers Agreement, to assist districts in
achieving their goals.

 

  • Here is a sampling of support provided to member
    and non-member districts. These efforts are designed
    to align with district goals and priorities, ensuring
    targeted and impactful outcomes.


    ✪ Crisis Prevention Institute—We provide ongoing
    training and recertification in Crisis Prevention
    Intervention (CPI) and de-escalation techniques to
    staff across the region.
    ✪ Spring and Fall Special Education (SPED)
    Leadership Empowerment Series—These are
    transformative opportunities designed for
    educators and administrators to strengthen and
    embrace leadership in special education. These
    series focus on critical aspects of leadership,
    equipping professionals with the knowledge, tools
    and strategies necessary to foster an inclusive
    and equitable system. The foci include legal
    updates, strategies for addressing compliance,
    documentation, and student support.
    ✪ SPED Inclusionary Practices—We provide
    monitoring and technical support in this area.
    ✪ Goalbook—We have invested in Goalbook licenses
    for each of our member districts to enhance
    instructional planning and support for our diverse
    learners.
    ✪ Amira Learning—We have invested in licenses for
    each of our member districts and provide technical
    support for Tier 1 of New Mexico’s Multi-Layered
    System of Supports (MLSS).
    ✪ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)—We
    provide file reviews.
    ✪ Walsh Gallegos Law Firm—We partner with the
    Walsh Gallegos Law Firm to provide our member
    districts monthly SPED roundtable discussions
    and legal compliance training sessions (TOOLBOX
    4.3) for our member districts. Additionally, member
    districts are provided with the WG Firm’s regularly

  • NWREC2 serves as a cornerstone for professional
    development in the Northwest Region, providing
    impactful training and support that benefit
    administrators, teachers, support staff, and students.

    These initiatives are delivered through Inter-
    Governmental Agreements (IGAs) with the New Mexico

    Public Education Department (NMPED) as well as
    programs uniquely designed by NWREC2. Here is a
    sampling of what we offer:


    ✪ We assist with the organization of the New
    Mexico Office of Special Education’s annual
    Parent University, for families with children with
    disabilities, parents and school staffs, and Regional
    Professional Development Tours for school staff
    and parents.

    updated Handbook of SPED Procedures, as well as
    retainers for addressing SPED compliance within
    their districts.
    ✪ Lorie Gerkey, Attorney at Law—We collaborate
    with Lorie Gerkey to deliver specialized legal
    training for our member districts in the area of
    SPED.
    ✪ Medicaid—We provide Medicaid billing services for
    districts.
    ✪ District Needs Assessments—District Needs
    Assessments are regularly distributed to our
    member districts. The feedback collected informs
    our planning and ensures that our programs and
    initiatives align with their specific needs.
    ✪ PowerSchool Special Programs/Digital
    Signature—We provide member districts with
    access to PowerSchool Special Programs, including
    Digital Signature. In addition to purchasing the
    software, we offer training and ongoing support to
    district staff as needed.
    ✪ Instructional Resources—We are committed to
    meeting the unique needs of our member districts
    by providing instructional resources upon request.
    Whether materials, tools or specialized supports,
    these resources are tailored to enhance teaching
    and learning outcomes.
    ✪ Child Find—We support our member districts with
    their Child Find initiatives.
    ✪ Title III Consortium Service
    ✪ Career Technical Education (CTE)/Carl Perkins
    Consortium
    ✪ Rural CTE Alliance
    ✪ Secondary Disciplinary Literacy Coaching
    Program —These literacy coaches support
    secondary teachers in all disciplines, with high
    quality, high-impact instructional practices, and
    provide professional development to school staffs,
    as it relates to unique school needs.
    ✪ Northern Transition Team (NTT) —In partnership
    with community based organizations, this team
    provides holistic support for infants and toddlers,
    and their families.
    ✪ North Central Consortium (NCC)—E-rate services,
    technology and infrastructure support
    ✪ Scholar Athlete Honors Banquets—We plan and
    host these annual banquets across our area of the 

    state.

  • NWREC2’s work with the New Mexico Public
    Education Department (NMPED) and other agencies
    in coordinating and facilitating statewide professional
    development continues to expand each year. Through
    IGAs with various NMPED Divisions and Bureaus,
    other state agencies and non-profit organizations,
    we provide comprehensive support in key areas such
    as contract development, fiscal management, event
    facilitation, procurement, and Request for Proposals
    (RFP) processes.
